Why Believers Can Be Reasonable, Rational and Logical...and Still Be Wrong

"I believe that the truth is out there but that it is rarely obvious and almost never foolproof. What I want to believe based on emotions and what I should believe based on evidence do not always coincide." - Michael Shermer, The Believing Brain"What a piece of work is man! Top Ten Reasons I Am No Longer A Catholic

I will not be including the Spanish Inquisition in this list because nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.I don’t want to be associated with any social institution which effectively served as a front for an international child sex ring which both supplied the victims and sheltered the abusers in a deliberate, systematic manner. The only activity in which I want to be constantly shifting between sitting, standing, kneeling and saying “Oh, God!” is NOT appropriate for a church.  I like to sleep…See More

Why I'm An Atheist

I am an atheist, though I prefer the term non-religious. That is simply because I am not sufficiently convinced of the reality of a god, spirit or metaphysical force which created the universe and continues to influence the machinations of the world and the affairs of mankind. I feel the same way towards Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy although I see more evidence for the existence of these three mythical figures than I do for God! My atheism is not a belief system or a way of…See More

"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them.” – Jerry Falwell

“I think we should keep this clean, keep it simple, go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant.  They’re quite clear that we would create law based on the God of the Bible and the 10 commandments, it’s pretty simple.” – Sarah Palin, 2010

Welcome, Jay! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also like Heathen Geeks and Geek & Nerd Haven.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since the climate is changing so drastically.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

On a personal note, I've developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 3 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
